Corlett to step down as Taranaki Rugby CEO

By Cara Moffitt

Laurence Corlett has today announced his resignation as CEO of the Taranaki Rugby Football Union.

Corlett has a long association with the TRFU, initially as a player, with a career that spanned 64 caps for Taranaki between 2005 and 2012, followed by numerous coaching and interim commercial roles. He was appointed CEO in 2020.

"I am proud to have led the TRFU through many challenges over the past two years after a short stint in 2019 as the interim Commercial Manager.

The Stadium issues and Covid have meant the role has required a lot of sacrifices and hard work. I am grateful to the TRFU staff who have been in the fight with me.

Highlights have included helping the TRFU back into the black, winning the Ranfurly Shield, and being part of the team behind last year's NPC Championship success.

I am pleased to be leaving the TRFU in a better position, and I'm excited about new challenges on the horizon."

Andrew Thompson, Chairman of the TRFU, said, "We would like to thank Laurence for his contribution to Taranaki Rugby, both as a player and administrator. Laurence entered the role of CEO at a challenging time, following two challenging financial years, the closing of Yarrow Stadium and relegation to the Championship.

With the Union in a much stronger financial position, he leaves the role, a pathway to return to Yarrow Stadium and an unbeaten season by the Yarrows Taranaki Bulls.

We thank Laurence for his hard work and wish him all the best."

Corlett will officially finish in his role at the end of January, and a recruitment process for a new CEO will begin shortly.
