NZCT Helping To Nurture Rugby In Taranaki

The Taranaki Rugby Football Union (TRFU) continue to see the widespread benefits from the support it receives from the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT).

The trust has been pivotal to ensuring the grassroots level of the game continues to be nurtured and grown, with Taranaki Rugby chief executive Laurence Corlett saying NZCT’s funds were targeted specifically for the community game.

“Our Community rugby programme is flourishing despite the difficult nature of the past 12 months,” Corlett said.

“We are engaging players, administrators, and supporters of all ages from as far north as Urenui, across the coast to the likes of Pihama and south to Patea.

“Thanks to the continued support of the NZCT, we have been able to ensure the delivery of quality rugby competitions. We have interacted with thousands of primary and secondary school-aged boys and girls in Taranaki and had some amazing feedback that we are really proud of.”

Corlett said the union and its development staff have emphasised the importance of being able to promote rugby and the many benefits the sport brings to its participants, as well as the healthy impact on society throughout our region.

“Funding from the NZCT has made all of this possible during a year, that due to Covid 19, has been incredibly challenging.”

The TRFU are continuing to innovate for the benefit of rugby, and with the continued support of the NZCT community rugby in Taranaki continued to trend in a positive and productive fashion.
