Yarrows the Bakers to be new principal sponsor of Taranaki Rugby

Yarrows signing on with Taranaki RugbyA name synonymous with the Taranaki region and Taranaki Rugby will be emblazoned across the amber and black jersey this season.

Long-time Taranaki Rugby supporters Yarrows the Bakers has signed on as principal partner of the Taranaki Mitre 10 Cup team for the next three years, replacing Port Taranaki, and the team will be known as the Yarrows Taranaki Bulls.

Yarrows, a family-owned and operated business, was established 95 years ago in Manaia and has grown to become a well-known international baking company, producing a wide range of world-class frozen bakery products for major wholesale and foodservice customers in New Zealand, Australia and throughout Asia.

Aside from baking, the company’s other passion is rugby.

Yarrows is the naming rights sponsor of Taranaki’s international rugby venue Yarrow Stadium, and of the ground’s western stand – the Noel and Melva Yarrow Stand. The company was principal sponsor of the national provincial championship team from 1992 to 2002, and for the past two years has sponsored the Yarrows Kids Eat Free promotion, providing 500 free kids’ meals at each of Taranaki’s home games. This will continue in the 2018 season and into the future, as will the Yarrows Bread Chuck, which has been a crowd favourite.

Yarrows executive director Philip Yarrow said the company was thrilled to further strengthen its ties with Taranaki Rugby.

“There is a lot of history between our business and Taranaki Rugby and it’s exciting to be back as the principal partner,” he said.

“Taranaki has a lot to be proud of, including our rugby team, and for a long time we have punched well above our weight, so it makes a lot of sense to align Yarrows the Bakers with a part of the community that continues to perform and is close to everyone’s heart.

“We are really proud to be a part of the team and are looking forward to the seasons ahead.”

Taranaki Rugby chief executive Jeremy Parkinson said the union was delighted to have Yarrows onboard as principal partner.

“Yarrows is an iconic Taranaki company which has given fantastic support to Taranaki Rugby over a long period of time,” he said. “With Port Taranaki’s principal sponsorship completed after three years of outstanding support, we’re thrilled to secure the partnership of another prominent and successful Taranaki company that also shares our vision for on-field and off-field success.

“Sponsorship is crucial to the ongoing success of Taranaki rugby and we are extremely grateful that Yarrows has stepped up. We look forward to working with them as our principal partner and our other supporters as we head into the 2018 season as Ranfurly Shield holders.  We have some exciting plans for the 2018 season to engage with our fans in the most passionate rugby province in New Zealand.”

Port Taranaki chief executive Guy Roper said the company had thoroughly enjoyed its three-year term as principal partner.

“The team has represented the region and Port Taranaki extremely well. It has been fantastic seeing the Port Taranaki logo displayed proudly and successfully on the front of the amber and black jersey on rugby grounds around the country,” he said.

“We look forward to continuing our support of Taranaki rugby in some capacity this season and in the seasons to come.”
